7 Arrested In New York City Craigslist Prostitution Ring

Craigslist took another hit Wednesday when 7 people were arrested for operating a prostitution ring in New York City and using the website exclusively to source business.

The seven arrested operated or were phone "bookers" for Room Service Entertainment, which continuously posted ads to be prominently featured in the Erotic Services section of Craigslist. When those interested called the number in the ad, the bookers would set up appointments using code words and phrases such as GFE (girl friend experience) or skiing and rock climbing (drugs and partying).

All those arrested are charged with enterprise corruption, among other charges including conspiracy and money laundering and face up to 25 years in prison.

New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo had this to say about the situation:

"Until Craigslist gets serious about putting real protections in place, it will continue to be an environment where criminal operations thrive with impunity."

"Even after so-called reform of the Web site last fall, this prostitution ring easily gamed the system and allegedly used Craigslist to spread its illegal operation throughout all five boroughs and beyond," Cuomo said. "Today's arrests underscore the inherent risks posed by Craigslist and, most importantly, the need for protections that are full-fledged, not half-baked."

Mr. Cuomo, please take a look at your own street corners. We are sure you can find plenty of folks engaged in the world's oldest profession. This wasn't a major bust, it was easy pickings and you are only joining the long list of AGs and Law Enforcement Agencies that use Craigslist for a little easily earned publicity.

As far as those arrested...you deserve it. Only morons would engage in illegal activity on Craigslist with the current level of scrutiny placed on the website.

Stupidity remains rampant.
