A New Zealand couple drew the golden "Bank Error In Your Favor" Monopoly card and not only passed Go, they disappeared completely.
The couple, who ran a gas station in the northern city of Rotorua, applied to Westpac Bank for a NZ$10,000 ($6,000 U.S.) overdraft. Not only did Westpac Bank cheerily deposit the money in their account, the bank gave them a little bonus to the tune of over $6 Million (US). So, what did our gas station owners do?
They withdrew part of it in cash and disappeared.
Police are looking for the couple and have contacted Interpol for their assistance in the matter.
A police spokesperson said,"We are currently conducting an investigation into the individuals that may have been involved in the withdrawal of that money."
A spokesperson for the generous bank had this to say, it was ""pursing vigorous criminal and civil action to recover the sum of money stolen."
No word on the fate of the bank employee who keyed in the amount. Wanna take a guess?
