Accounting Clerk Wants Pay for Lunch Missed During Binghamton New York Massacre
Just when you thought you had heard it all...
James Kauchis, an accounting clerk with the Broome County Department of Social Services, has filed a formal complaint seeking pay for the lunch he missed during the April 3 massacre at the upstate New York immigration center. The shooting left 13 dead, 4 wounded and the shooter dead via suicide. Mr. Accounting Clerk would not speak with local newspapers, saying..."That's a matter between me, the administration and the union."
Apparently, Kauchis worked in a building near the immigration center that was locked down for 4 hours, and the poor guy couldn't take his lunch. The lock down was ordered to protect the roughly 370 people inside the building. During the four hours that social services employees were confined to their building, pizza and beverages were brought in by department bosses.
Kauchis' request for pay was turned down by Social Services and a spokesperson told a local paper that they were embarrassed by Kauchis' complaint and that a lot of people lost a lot more than just their lunch hour that day.
